DO NOT EDIT- Meet Meg

There are certain ways I write; mostly, I write to music. Sometimes I write to a person. Sometimes, like today, I plug in my headphones and dance around my room to let the words flow from my finger tips. It's not because they won't flow on their own, but because there is so much flow, I need to simplify my message. My message is for you, Meg, darling. This girl, she is the bravest person I have ever been blessed to know. Her story is streaked with marks of intentional hurt meant to darken her vision. She won't allow it- she speaks in brush strokes of passionate reds, empathetic yellows, peaceful greens. This girl, she is the strongest woman I have ever come across. My heart is so inspired by her story, by her refusal to be trampled under the feet of abuse. The one who has had words thrown at her like darts to an already-bleeding target. Her pain could be an easy excuse for refusing to forget; she has every right to wallow and throw herself a massive pity party. She won't do it. Instead, she is saying what she wants to say. She paints her dreams; her canvas is covered in various shades of bravery. She announces her worth and celebrates her unique contribution to this world. And she has chosen to instill in her daughter this same sense of stoutheartedness. I see it in her eyes every time we cross paths; I hear it in her voice, her bravery- her intention to be better, to be greater than the lack of love she has received. I am so proud of you, Meg. Your brave is big enough to inflate the courage of those around you- you inspire me and I think of you when this song plays. I am singing it to you when it comes on my radio, dear Meg. I believe in your journey and in your ability to overcome. I believe in your stillness and your resolution to be transformed into something better! You're going on to do brilliant works, full of color and love and shining rays of inspiration. This post is not only about Meg's refusal to believe the words spoken about her body- it is about her taking those words and turning them into beautiful works of art. Her life, her mothering, her faith is a direct contradiction of what mean people would think of her. She isn't bitter, no; she is still sweet. She has kept her sweetness and her gentleness. I don't think we know how difficult of a task it is to keep our juices sweet when we're squeezed by pain. It takes bravery to remain sweet. And to continue believing yourself in the face of "you are not". If Meg can do it, we can do it. Let's show the world how big our brave is! <3

You can be amazing You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug You can be the outcast Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love Or you can start speaking up Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do When they settle ‘neath your skin Kept on the inside and no sunlight Sometimes a shadow wins But I wonder what would happen if you Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave I just want to see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I just wanna see you I wanna see you be brave Everybody’s been there, Everybody’s been stared down by the enemy Fallen for the fear And done some disappearing, Bow down to the mighty Don’t run, just stop holding your tongue Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live Maybe one of these days you can let the light in Show me how big your brave is Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave And since your history of silence Won’t do you any good, Did you think it would? Let your words be anything but empty Why don’t you tell them the truth? Say what you wanna say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave With what you want to say And let the words fall out Honestly I wanna see you be brave
